Hello, hello!! Long time no see, I know. I bet you thought I had been taken hostage by aliens due to my lack of posts lately, and while I haven’t been, I kinda have been at the same time. More on that later. First, let’s get back to introductions.
Today I am linking up again to Heidi over at Heidi’s Head for 3 Things Thursday! I love this format and have linked up before, but it has been a while so bear with me while I get my blogging feet wet again. So without further adieu…
1. Once upon a time, if asked if I was a runner, I would reply that if I was running, you better run, too because something (like a clown or giant spider) were chasing me. Now if asked that, my response is more on the line of, “I’m trying to be.” And I am. Trying to be a runner. It’s funny because I have always hated running. I was horrible at it in grade school, always picked dead last for every P.E. sport or game because I was mercilessly teased for running like a duck. Yep, Duck Dawn. Stop laughing. I don’t really run like water fowl any longer, but I am still a Hobbit and have Hobbit legs. Hiking is way more my thing, and I do it well. Running is a whole new ballgame and while I am not great with low times yet, I am at least getting off the couch and moving.
In order to keep inspiring me to run, and maybe a little bit more of the reasoning for my running is the races. I am currently signed up for 5 different races between now and February and I am thinking of adding in the Inaugural Jeff Galloway Half Marathon in Atlanta for December. I started with using the Jeff Galloway method for beginners and soon I will be switching to his Half Marathon Method in training for the races, but I initially started out with the cool app C25K (Couch to 5K). Both have been great training tools to get me on the right track.
While I still have a long way to go, I am more and more proud of myself every day. I have a lot of weight to shed after 2 years of stress eating coupled with long-term steroid treatments and reduced activities, but I am getting there. I can see a difference already in my body and my clothes fit better and better every day! I am even wearing clothes I hadn’t worn in two years, and the pants I am wearing in the two pictures below, I can now walk right out of without undoing! Woot, woot, go me! 😉
This was me in February
This is me several weeks ago (using my camera strap as a belt to keep my pants on!)
Slowly but surely, I will get there. One tennis shoed foot in front of the other.
2. I started running because of Disney. Yep, I blame the Mouse. This past February I had an amazing trip to Walt Disney World with 4 girlfriends who were running races during the Princess Marathon weekend. I had not signed up in time because my doctor didn’t give clearance in time, so I was just an observer. Well, observer no more! I want this bling…
So now I am signed up, registered and ready to run! In October I will be running the Tower of Terror 10 Miler with my girlfriends, then next February I will be running all 3 races during Princess Marathon weekend
! The 5K, the 10K and the Half. The half and 10K combined are called the Glass Slipper Challenge and I couldn’t be more excited to take part in all three with my ‘Sole Sisters.’
For the 5K, I am running for the American Association for Cancer Research. As a cancer survivor myself, I can’t think of a better organization to run for. You can help me meet my fundraising goal of $300 HERE
. For the Glass Slipper Challenge, I am running for the Children’s Miracle Network. Between my occurrences of cancer, I had a miracle baby. Running for this organization makes me so proud. You can help me meet my $1200 fundraising goal for CMN HERE
Because I am in runDisney mode, that means I am also in Disney vacation planning mode, and that sure couldn’t make me happier! I am so excited to be returning to Fort Wilderness campgrounds, and this time I rented a huge camper from Florida Camper Rentals
for my girls, my Sole Sisters and I to all have a wonderful fall retreat. We are looking forward to the race, of course, but also Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival., Homeschool Day and more. I will be even hitting some meet-ups from a few of my favorite groups, the Disney Foodies from the Disney Foodies Facebook
and the Disney Nerds from the Disney Nerd Podcast
and Disney Nerd
s Facebook pages.
Speaking of Disney Nerd Podcast, I myself was recently on the show talking all about Fort Wilderness. You can listen to that and more of their awesome podcasts through their site, Stitcher radio, iTunes and more. I am looking forward to being on the show again in the future. Me, Disney, nerds…it’s a match made in radio heaven!
As we build up to trip time, I will be sharing my preparations as well as reviews of my most recent trips. Stay tuned for a lot more Disney!
3. Earlier I mentioned that I had been kidnapped by aliens. This is my alien…
My granddaughter. Didn’t plan for her at this stage of my life, but often God has different plans for us than we have for ourselves. So glad His plan was to bring us the love and joy she has brought to us since April. So while I haven’t truly been taken by aliens, I have a tiny little alien here that totally consumes any and all spare time I may find. What a blessing it is to be a grandmother! All I can say is ‘Thank you, God! Thank you, God!” Trust me, you will hear lots about my sweet little princess and my learning to let go the ropes of motherhood I have held so long to take up the reins of being this sweet pea’s DeeDee. It’s a journey but I am enjoying the scenery as we walk this new road!
So that wraps up my 3 things this week. Join my next week when we do it all over again! Be sure to visit over at Heidi’s Head
and read all the blog link-ups to today’s 3 things Thursday.
Until we meet again, keep dreaming! ºOº
